Fly the Tube

London Transport's 'Fly the Tube' poster sold the Piccadilly line's new airport service, which reached Heathrow when the line was extended there in 1977. The headline borrows the language of aviation - 'It's the only way to fly' - to reframe a subway ride as the start of the flight, positioning the train as a rival to the airport coach and taxi rather than just another Tube journey. It was issued as a lithographic poster in a series printed for the airport extension.
