Locomotive 4040

Peter Ewart painted the FP9A diesel head-on so the locomotive nearly fills the frame, with the Rockies reduced to a backdrop and the beaver-shield logo riding the nose. Ewart designed two dozen posters for Canadian Pacific over a roughly seventeen-year run promoting the self-styled 'World's Greatest Travel System,' and here he sells the railway's modern motive power as the subject itself rather than the scenery it passes through.
