On Your Feet or in Your Face
Bruce Kilgore's Air Force 1, launched in late 1982 as the first basketball shoe with Nike Air cushioning, was discontinued after two years, then revived in 1985 when Baltimore retailers sold 3,000 reissued pairs within days and pushed Nike to bring it back for good. An ad shooting the high-tops like trophies fits that comeback moment, selling court dominance: the pun 'on your feet or in your face' frames the shoe as both equipment and a means of posterizing an opponent.
